Everyone thinks they are smart and when it comes to examining a home, people are proud of their ignorance. So they rush in and try to do it without an inspector. However, there are so many things you do not know, that he has been trained in, you cannot do without him.

Did you know that if you have a water heater in the garage the house can blow up? The water heater must be a minimum height off the ground to avoid mixture of gas fumes with the heater flame. It is one small example of what you did not know before you read this article and inspectors are trained in all of these details.

An inspector knows how to test for functional ground fault circuit interrupters in the bathroom, kitchen, garage, and outdoor outlets. These protect you against electrocution and death. Do you know how to do this? Do you know how to test the water pressure in the plumbing in your home? Can you gauge the fire rating of the common wall between the house and the garage to protect your family in case of fire in the garage?

Since you are making a life investment, you do not want to mess it up by being too cheap. Invest in an inspector and have it done right at the beginning. You do not want to find out later that there were serious problems with the house, that you were unaware of, and then have to shell out tons of cash to repair them. If you do, you are sunk.
